Sean was very sad to hear his grandpa torrey is sick and in the hospital. He said, "mommy, i will go an make him feel better". I said, Sean, if you make him a card I will take it to your grandpa Torrey and it will make him feel better inside. My father has suffered several series of debilitating strokes since his young 60's. Well, this last stroke my father had yesterday will probably take him from that as it has left him in the hospital with a feeding tube and the inability to speak or move. It reminds me of how fragile life really is and how important it is to have all of your wishes in writing. I am off to Florida tomorrow to connect with my brother and sister in law, my sister Jennifer and my father's brother Jimmy in Merritt Island. My older sister Teri is trying to come down as well. We are there to show him our moral support since he can't speak anymore. I actually ordered a bunch of Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) cards to take so my dad could try and communicate. These are picture cards/social stories that we use with Sean to get him to transition from one activity to the next without tantrums, however I thought that since my dad could not speak, he could motion or try to point to his wishes and wants. I don't want to see my father in a nursing home situation and I want him to find peace with his decisions. He has been in this frail body for the last five years. His mind is still there, however his body is physically giving up on him. I want him to find peace in his decisions. I found this picture tonight and it reminded me of my father because he worked on the Columbia, a former Aerospace Engineer for Rockwell and United Space Alliance in Cape Canveral, FL. Ironically , its a picture of the Columbia passing through the pearly gates and I hope he finds that Peace. If you ever visit the Astronaut Hall of Fame at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island Florida, you will find a brick with my father's name: Glen

I am so sorry to hear about your dad's lastet stroke. That is so difficult for the family and especially for your dad. When we visited the Kennedy Space Center I was in awe and continue to be in awe with the amount of intelligence and incredible sense of "possiblilities are endless" spirit that the people who worked and continue to work in the space program. Each time a shuttle goes to space, or a discovery made while in space...it's a tribute to your dad and those many others who have made it all possible. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.
Susan, please also remember to take it easy and let your own body heal...you need to be strong and heathy to help your family and father.
